| Description: | MOTOR NOVELTIES Inventions - an automatic road roller, emergency exit on a bus and an "Expando" van. United Kingdom Motor Roller. MLS worker in street pushing a hand steam roller - wheel c. 3' diameter and 4' wide; steam seems to be coming out the side. 2 other workers are raking/sweeping material in front of it and the roller is smoothing the stuff out; a few men and boys stand on the sidewalk watching.Man pushes roller back to left. MCU man starting motor on the wheel? (Very dark, hard to see.) LS man pushing roller toward camera; now more spectators have gathered along side of street. Roller going by itself! Man flips handle over to other side and the roller goes back the other way. All-enclosed double-decker bus comes driving around corner past warehouses. Interior shot several people riding on bus. LS bus stopped, side view. Inside bus, MCU man unfastens latch, opens door. LS bus w/ door opened on top level; a few bars fold down to serve as steps but they don't look very substantial , they're not very close together and they don't go all the way down. Woman cheerfully climbs out the door down the "steps" and hops down the rest of the way. More women follow. (More than were in shot inside bus - these must have been sitting elsewhere. "Expando" Van. Van drives up, stops. MCU driver turning a handle, like a jack. MLS Rear view van; as the man walks back toward camera, the sides of the van push outwards and the roof rises, as if by magic! Another man steps into picture. The 2 men both climb into rear of van. MS the men sit inside the van, smoking cigarettes, looking at a folder, and acting business-like. (Title suggests that the van makes a good mobile office.) MLS they exit van again. MS driver reaches into cab, cranks the handle again.MLS he comes back round to watch the van shrink to its previous size, then closes the door. Van drives away. | |
