| Description: | "Movement a la Mode"; Very good story on fashion models training at modelling school. Starts w/ a bit on fashion's changes through the ages. Seven young women in loose Grecian style clothing w/ transparent skirts dancing in a circle, holding hands; this is in a garden w/ classical pillars and statuary. Looks like something out of M. Parrish painting. This is supposed to represent the freedom of the ancient greeks so idealised in the 1920s. Next, MLS woman in ornate costume of a queen in the 1400s; she lifts up her hoops and sits down w/ some difficulty. MLS 2 other women in dresses from the same period- -not quite so elaborate as the preceding; they hitch up the hoops and sit down for a chat. Now to the present (1920s): a class of women in street clothes w/ knee-lenth skirts doing exercises- - toe-touches, reaching across to touch opposite foot. They do a balance exercise standing on one leg while moving the arms and the other leg. Next, 4 women lay on their stomachs across padded stools and stretch their arms & legs, arching their backs. To practice perfect posture, a row of women walk across room balancing crystal dessert cups full of something on their heads; cut in CU of one of the girls walking. MS model having her clothes changed by a dresser; others in dressing room watch; she checks herself in the mirror and exits. Next comes runway practice: first, models practice walking gracefully while fanning themselves w/ ostrich feather fans. Then one by one the women practice walking, turning, showing off the dresses to best advantage while an instructor (equally stylish and attractive) gives critique. | |
