| Description: | NEEDLEWORK CHURCH A remarkable model church made entirely of fabric. Ilford, Essex L/S of a model of a church. This model was made by the late Mrs. Alice Dudman of Ilford, Essex. Her daughter-in-law Doreen keeps the model spick and span with a miniature brush. She dusts the furniture. Various shots of the model and of Doreen doing her housework. Velvet, silk, satin and parchment have been used in the model. C/U of a miniature bible being dusted with the tiny brush. Ditto the miniature organ - C/U of the pipes which have been made with gold silk. A miniature flag of the Women's Union branch to which Mrs. Dudman belonged hands beside the altar. High angle shot of the church floor and pews, C/U of detail of the floor. C/Us of a shrine area, a "painting" and of the hymn board. The project was begun in 1929 and took 9 years of painstaking needlework to complete. Mrs. Dudman was offered £500 for the model before she died but turned it down. Ends with an impressive tilt shot which makes the model look like a real church. | |
