| Description: | Nehru's Trek To Tibet. India's Prime Minister Nehru treks north to visit Tibet and the neighboring 'hermit kingdom' of Bhutan, seldom seen by western eyes. Progress over the lofty Himalayan ridges is by Jeep, then mule, and finally by yak. Mountaineer warriors hail Nehru's arrival with clashing tambourines. Jeep caravan along winding road on steep hill. Nehru shakes hands with Asian man, crowds around. Young woman, then also Nehru riding on mules (?), other people around them, some leading the beasts. Nehru dismounts. A bald man with eyeglasses places a long strip of cloth on Nehru's arms, Nehru brings his hands (in white gloves) together as if in prayer, as does this man, and they seem to bow slightly to one another. Lines of Asian military men with weapons stand to attention. Nehru inspecting the troops. Pretty scenic shot of mountains, no people or anything seen. Now a new procession with Nehru riding on (?) a yak. He looks at the camera and a smile comes to his face, and he waves. Row of men in what look like traditional Oriental/ Asian clothing and hats. They play musical instruments (no audio of this). Nehru, now on a horse, rides past people with flags. Asian people in crowds wearing various types of outfits. Nehru greets another Asian man and does the same ritual with the white cloth. | |
