| Description: | Some kind of record for achievement is marked at UCLA. John B Elie finishes his college career at the age of 86. But he’s young at heart and courageous enough to return to school with his quiz show winnings. He resumed his education after a lifetime of working, writing six symphonies and scores of other compositions and raising seven children. Elie began school during the presidency of Ulysses S Grant. But it was never like this, the coeds keep him from feeling his age he explains. Dear old golden school days. Elie stands out at commencement as the universities oldest graduate. He’s justly proud of his degree and Mrs. Elie is justly proud of her man. Establishing shot John Elie pulling up in a 1957 Ford station wagon and disembarks. He stands with books in hands waving at the coeds. MS - He walks over to the coeds and they make a spot for him to sit down and join them before class. MS - The coeds and John Elie walking into the university. Camera panning wide, long shot - Throngs of graduates and their families at his commencement. MS - John Elie receiving his diploma and he holds it up so the crowd can see. MS - Mrs. Elie greets John; I suspect that the other people are family members that are standing in the background. He’s ready now to begin his life’s work in music. | |
