| Description: | Shaky, blurry and dark in spots in contrast and imagery DOS Having set up a new state called Israel, the Jews in Palestine are now fighting for survival. Ceremonies setting up new state are shown, and also bitter struggle for control of Jaffa, which the Jews captured form the Arabs. Egyptian planes raid Tel Aviv. Jews kept in a holding area camp. Jews boarding a boat and standing on deck as ship docks. Shots of dead Jews or Arabs that were killed. Shot of a Jewish flag and soldiers standing at attention. The British mandate to govern Palestine ended after the war, and in 1947 the UN voted to partition Palestine. When the British officially withdrew on May 14, 1948, the Jewish National Council proclaimed the State of Israel. US recognition came within hours. | |
