Don Schollander, a California high school student wins the 200 meter, free-style with a new record of 1:59. He also wins the 400 and loses the 1500 by three-tenths of a second. In diving from the 10-meter board, Lieutenant Tom Gompf, a fighter pilot, wins the gold medal in some high-flying aerial maneuvers. Chicago, Illinois Young men dive into the pool swimming a 200 meter swim. He's cutting through the water like a shark and breaks a world record. MS - Crowd waving and cheering. CUS - A smiling Don Schollander. MS - Swimming fans. MCUBS - Don is warming up for 1500 meters. MCUS - All the swimmers dive in the water. Don comes in second loosing by three-tents of a second. Sorrier wins the 1500 free style. MS - A diver does a summer-salt dive with almost a perfect entry into the water. MS - A 3 1/2 foreword pike.
