| Description: | Peerless Peter Snell of new Zealand sets a New United States mile mark (breaking his own) as he leads Jim Beatty and company home in a run at Modesto, California. Snell runs the mile in 3:54:0, close to his world mark of 3:54:4. Another world record is set as Brian Sternberg soars 16 feet 7 inches in the pole vault. Phil Shinnick sets a broad jump mark, 27 feet, 4 inches, only to find it will be disallowed. An incompetent official forgot to turn on the measuring machine to check wind velocity--only a four-mile wind is allowed in record jumps. Modesto, California Crowds filling up the seats in a sports stadium. MS - Runners at the start and the pistol is sounded and off they go. CUS - Some sports fans pointing at the runners. MS - Runners are running the track holding pace. MS - Snell pulls out from the pack and takes off leading.. MSOH - Snell running the race by himself and winning the 4 - Minute Mile. CUS - Snell wife comes down to the stadium bar and blows her husband an air kiss. MS - Brian Sternberg pole vault. CUS - Phil Shinnick broad jump. 27ft 4in but he looses a world record by incompetence of one of the judges. | |
