| Description: | NEW STYLES IN FURNITURE Fabulous fifties furniture - some crazy items including an Emmett creation! Earls Court, London GV. Exhibition of furniture at Earls Court. LV. Pan exhibition. SV. Woman sitting at modern writing desk, she opens a drawer in top of writing desk and closes it. Contemporary tables, one fashioned as a piano - a coffee table, with keyboard made of inlaid tiles. Pan across showing one like a domino and another shaped as a painter's palette - cool! CU. Woman looking on. SV. Salesman opening up modern table, he pushes the centre piece which turns upside down. He folds up a tablecloth and places it in centre compartment. CU. As salesman then pushes the two outer leaves together, covering the inner piece which holds the tablecloth. LV. Glamour girl sitting beside modern cocktail cabinet, all the surrounding furniture is man-made timber (compressed wood chips). CU. girl closes top of cabinet and then goes over to modern enclosed bookcase. CU. She slides back door of a bookcase and takes out a book. SCU. People looking on. SV. Woman sitting in comfortable armchair, man arrives with a cup of tea, opens the arm of the chair and pulls out small leaf table which is concealed in the arm of the chair - he puts the cup on the leaf. Woman picks up tea to drink. SV. Girl jumping up and down on divan testing the springing. SV. Armchair having spring test of 224 lbs. which is equivalent to a 16 stone man. A weight is jabbed up and down into the middle of the cushion. (and CU.) LV. of a bed constructed by Rowland Emett sitting in background working control as the bed sways too and fro, up and down. CU. Emett looking up at it. It is a fabulous, crazy construction. SCU. Mannequin as she lies there with the bed swaying too and fro - quite surreal! Front view as the contraption sways to and fro - sitting on top is a teddy-bear rowing. SV. Pan sign: 'What is your choice - come in and lie down' pan to wax model woman lying on divan. Narrator makes a joke about the Pathe cameraman needing a rest. SV. Towards, man comes in carrying camera gear and makes towards the bed where she is lying down, stops to look and then takes off the camera shackles, and puts them on floor, jumps on bed then lies down. CU - he sleeps peacefully. | |
