L/S of a ship moored close to the coast. A long cable stretches from the ship to the shore, it is kept afloat by barrels tied to it an intervals. In the foreground, two men standing on the beach, untie the barrels. High angled L/S of the ship and the cable stretching to the beach. Various shots of a dozen or so shire horses and a crowd of men pulling the cable along the beach. "Everybody in the village lent a hand!" High angled L/S of a crowd of men and boys trudging through the sand, pulling the cable. More shots of men and horses pulling the cable across the beach. M/S of men pulling the cable over the sand dunes towards the village. "From ship to hut ... a mile and a half of cable, weighing 45 tons". Various shots of the men pulling the cables over the cliff tops. M/S of the men pulling the cable towards a small house on the cliff top.
