| Description: | New Tyne Bridge - one of the greatest engineering feats of the century... opened by the King & Queen." Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Tyne and Wear. Various shots of work on the new Tyne Bridge; men digging and trucks going past laden with sacks of cement. "...then... the flinging of the two great steel arches, weighing 4,500 tons... across the Tyne... 1927..." M/S of two sections of the arch of the bridge in place, but not meeting over the top yet. "... and then... the two halves lowered into position and linked together early in 1928" M/S of men working at the top of the arch as it it joined together. "...to-day... a 38 ft. road, with double tram track 93 ft. above the water, is suspended from that mighty arch." Good M/S of the finished Tyne Bridge, lined with people. High angle L/S of crowds cheering as a horse-drawn carriage comes along the road. King George V and Queen Mary wave from the carriage. A small girl stands beside the stationary carriage, hands a large book or card to Queen Mary and makes a low curtsey. The King and Queen take their places on a platform with several other people; King George puts on his glasses to make a speech, then pulls a lever to open two barriers on the bridge, declaring it open.
