| Description: | NIBBLES FROM "RATS" AT THE VAUDEVILLE THEATRE, LONDON Extracts from a revue show staring Gertrude Lawrence, Herbert Mundin and Alfred Lester. "Rats" was a hugely successful revue show staged by André Charlot in 1923 at the New Vaudeville Theatre. It ran for 285 nights. London MS Gertrude Lawrence & Herbert Mundin dressed as a rustic country (Irish??) couple. Se sits on stile, he brings her flowers, he climbs up on the stile too and they kiss, but then both wipe their mouths then grin like fools. Skit set in the future (1943) in which time all the railroads have amalgamated into one company. Angry customers outside door against backdrop of drawing (intentionally unreal looking) of a very shabby train station; Alfred Lester playing the surly Station Manager comes out and pushes past the people as they try to accost him. He waves flags and waits, cups hand to ear. MCU Lester impatiently waves summoning train. Then he puts fingers in mouth and whistles. MLS 2-dimensional train comes sliding in on the "track" w/ engineer leaning out window. Station master storms past the people on platform back to doorway, brings back a light to the engineer. Train pulls up farther. Lester prevents passengers from getting in car w sign "Reserved for Directors" and makes them all squeeze into one car. One man leans out window to complain and he shoves him back in. Then train drives off but leaves this car at the station!
