| Description: | “Portsmouth. On Land and Sea ... instantly ready! By special permission of the Admiralty we present - for the first time - these interesting pictures taken at the Royal Naval Barracks.” Portsmouth, Hampshire. Men of the British Royal Navy do drill / marching demonstration. Their marching display is meant to demonstrate how ships for convoys at sea sailing, and then forming up to fire, as at Jutland. They carry little flags like the signal flags on a ship. In a second drill, sailors run from the barracks to form up in ranks on the parade ground. This exercise allows them to practice if the navy needs to launch in an emergency. An officer announces that all the men have formed up. A bugle sounds and the men rush off - at the double. | |
