| Description: | OPEN AIR CURE HELPS TOMMY TO REGAIN HEALTH - WOUNDED SOLDIERS RECOVERING wounded British soldiers recovering in hospital, we see them playing games. World War One; casualties. Great film of wounded British soldiers recovering at military hospital. Shot of long low building with large open windows all along side; an "Open-Air Ward" at a hospital; pan to several men sitting in windows or leaning against building outside; even though it appears to be snowing or raining; the idea is that the open air will cure "Tommy Atkins" the quickest. Some of the men have bandages etc.; one has had a leg amputated. Interior; playing checkers: CU man lying in hospital bed with checkerboard on him while the other player reaches over from the next bed and a third guy with bandaged head watches the game. Three Wounded soldiers stand in a row playing boules/bowls/bowling outside. Man with broken left arm uses his right to toss the small heavy ball. 2 men walk forward; third has a jaunty little cap and his arm in a sling under long bathrobe. About 20 recuperating soldiers walking across lawn toward camera--truly the walking wounded.Several gather around the ball that was rolled; one man pointing at spot on ground as others look. Line of 10 of the recovering soldiers; standing in the garden; playing ring toss. One guy tosses ring toward camera; they walk forward; pointing and talking; etc. Games; convalescent; | |
