| Description: | The traditional procession for the King's official opening of Parliament; the monarch drives in state from Buckingham Palace to Westminster, an event that was filmed every year. Possibly the most interesting thing about this film is the footage of the lords & ladies standing about waiting for the arrival of HM the King George V.
Pan with Gold State Coach in which King George V and Queen Mary leave Buckingham Palace. MLS policeman stands at curb in front of a crowd in court dress (ladies have long gowns and tiaras - -and, since it's a bit chilly waiting outdoors on this autumn day, many have furs over their dresses) waiting and watching for the royals' arrival. 01:45:50 LS royal procession approaching cam Jumpy short shots procession guards etc. LS they ride past a band playing a welcome; one horse does a fancy side-step alongside procession, so that he is facing the band. Shot from side looking over guards as procession passes; on other side a crowd watches. 01:48:06 the 6 horses pull royal carriage past; pan w/ carriage; can see King and Queen (mostly Queen) inside. 01:49:08 Meanwhile, back with the aristocrats. Finally the procession arrives? or is it? ah it's the first carriage (not the King's); behind it a car which stops. 01:49:35 MLSs The tiara group; and a foreign leader(ID=????Looks very familiar); some of the ladies chat amongst themselves. A boy holds a large card or paper. People sometimes seem to be asking a police officer who stands in front of them if he sees them yet. MS a few men wearing feathered cocked hats and uniforms; the older men have elaborate embroidery on jackets, and big medals. | |
