Southampton, Hampshire. [Correct spelling, visible on the bow of the ship, is 'Nevasa.'] Soldier gives passionate kiss to wife and family. Shots of troops on deck of troopship 'Nevasa'. [There were three 'Nevasa' ships, built and maintained by the British India Steam Navigation Company, of which P&O became a subsidiary in 1914. This the second 'Nevasa' was Launched 12th Dec.1912 in Glasgow. She was converted to a hospital ship in WWI, then as a troop ship. In 1919 she resumed passenger service between Great Britain and points East. In 1925 she was again refitted as a troopship. In WWII, she served as a transport and took a role in the Normandy landings. She was scrapped in 1948.] | |
