| Description: | Our Royal Guests - Britain welcomes Amanullah, King of Afghanistan and Souriya, his beautiful Queen. Dover, Kent and London. M/S of a liner coming into the docks at Dover. M/S of the King and Queen of Afghanistan walking down the gangplank, followed by military men, including a guard with a busby hat. The King walks along the dockside with his military entourage and salutes a line of guards standing to attention. The King and Queen walk beside a train on a railway platform at Dover with their entourage and are greeted by men in white wigs; one reads to them from a book - presumably some kind of traditional greeting; the book is handed to the King, the Queen is given a bunch of flowers. At a London railway station (probably Victoria) we see the royal party getting off the train and being greeted by King George V and Queen Mary; they are all seen shaking hands with various military dignitaries. The two Kings walk past a line of guards in busbys outside the station then get into an open carriage under a canopy of international flags outside the station; the two Queens can be made out in the background getting into their open carriage. High angle L/S of the royal procession coming along the crowd-lined street (possibly Victoria Street?), under a banner reading 'The Citizens of Westminster Welcome the King and Queen of Afghanistan'. The crowds wave as the two Kings go past. L/S of the carriage coming along Constitution Hill from Hyde Park Corner (?), then arriving at Buckingham Palace. "At the Cenotaph." Before a large crowd, the King and Queen of Afghanistan place a huge wreath of flowers at the base of the memorial, assisted by members of their entourage. | |
