| Description: | on preview cassette 211782 B Ah, sweet, nourishing beer... ah, sweet, nourishing, and cheap Pabst Blue Ribbon! Do not watch this film alone or for too long for no work will get done. An assortment of commercials for God's gift to stomachs everywhere, in the following order... 1) A highwheeler race. A high-wheeler is one of those old-fashioned bicycles with the ridiculously oversized front wheel. This taked place in present (1970) day, with the riders dressed in 1910 white flannel baseball uniforms. Many MS's of these men riding through the countryside. CU's of beer being poured into large glass goblets. MS's of people cheering the riders, drinking their beer. Kickin' it old school, at least for one day. 2) Train riding in the 1890's. Some great LS's of a train rolling through a late autumn afternoon countryside (reminds me of our Kaw Valley material). MS of a man and woman in fancy period dress walking into the dining car, a maitre d showing them a table. CU of man ordering two Pabsts to start off (he's trying to get her drunk, I bet). CU's of beer being poured from a tap into large glass goblets, then brought to table for the folks to enjoy. 3) A music hall in the 1890's. MS's of men sitting at tables or at the bar at a music hall, a chanteuse emerging from a curtain to sing. CU's of her working the room, particularly the table of a young blond man, his first time there (great goofy reaction shots of the boy-man). CU's of beer being poured from a tap. CU of a glass of beer being shuttled down the length of a bar and into a customer's waiting hand (that trick almost never works). MS of the singer tossing a rose to the young man. High angle MS of the man standing and saluting her intentions by raising his drink into the air. 4) An outdoor horse auction in the 1890's. MS's of men in swell hats drinking beer and bidding for horses. Eventually turns into a game of price-gouging. CU's of beer being drawn from wooden kegs. A gay old time. 5) A semi-tie-in with Barbra Streisand's "Hello, Dolly". Many INT shots of a gorgeous, antique, totally restored saloon. 6) Quick spot. INT shots of a parlor circa 1890's. Completely restored room. CU's of old-time songbooks on a piano. CU's of a Pabst bottle and full glass of beer on a lazy susan filled with cheese and apples. Told ya it was wholesome. 7) Same as #5 but with no movie tie-in. Many INT shots of antique bar, Good MS's of design and decor. 8) Scullying in the late 1890's. Scullying is much akin to crew rowing. MS's and LS's of men racing boats in a river. MS of a cannon going off, ending the race. MS's of people cheering from the riverbank, drinking beer. CU'sof men drawing beer from a wooden keg by the river. MS's of men throwing the losing coxsman into the river. 9) EXT shots of the old Milwaukee Pabst brewery. MS's of a spokesman walking through the building's interior, talking "old time" and "tradition" to the camera. CU of beer being poured into a glass. 10) INT shots of the old Milwaukee Pabst brewery, a spokeman standing by several huge beer vats. EXT shots of the brewery. MS of pitchman walking onto a crowded patio, stopping at an empty table. CU of him pouring himself a beer. | |
