| Description: | PADDY FIELD IN VIETNAM Women in Vietnam move water for irrigation by swinging baskets. Primitive irrigation of paddyfield by Vietnamese women workers using swinging buckets. This of course is not long after the end of the war, during which much of the country's irrigation system, which had been built up over many centuries, had been destroyed. VS group of women in paddyfield. First we see a group of several workers walking on path beside paddy carrying baskets on sticks over their shoulders. Then 4 women working on primitive irrigation using buckets. Each bucket is tied in the center of 2 long ropes, one at the bottom and one at the top. The ends of the ropes are held by 2 women on either side of a ditch and they swing the buckets into water, scooping water and sloshing it to other side (onto next paddyfield?) They move in totally perfect unison and not only that there's another pair right behind them working at exactly the same rhythm so that they don't tangle up all their ropes and buckets not to mention themselves. | |
