| Description: | A Peep behind the Scenes. Filmed at His Majesty's Theatre. (By courtesy of Charles B. Cochran) - Smoothly flowing 'Music in the Air' to the audience, but how many realise the rapid series of quick changes behind the scenes. London. Several shots show technicians, stage hands and actors backstage at His Majesty's Theatre, as scenery is changed for the next act of the show 'Music In The Air'. The interior walls of a Tyrolean (?) church are moved into position, lights are fixed in place, filters on overhead lights are changed. The leading actors, Mary Ellis and Arthur Margetson are seen getting ready to go on stage; she powders her face and takes a drink of water, he puts on his jacket. A beautiful chorus girl does a few graceful steps for us. Several members of the cast in Tyrolean costume wait in the wings, then take their places in the church set. The whole set is then swung round on a moving platform and the final touches are made by stagehands before the curtain goes up. Brief shot of the actors on the stage, seen from the auditorium. We hear the sound of the audience applauding. Fade out. Note: 'Music In The Air' was Jerome Kern / Oscar Hammerstein II show that was a big hit on Broadway in 1932. | |
