| Description: | PEEPS AT THE "FUN OF THE FAYRE" - LONDON PAVILION starring Miss Evelyn Laye as Nell Gwynne. Dances from "Fun of the Fayre" Fair scene: Laye & other actors/actresses in 1600s costumes dancing in FG; in BG booths, actors playing actors on small stage. Next scene is supposed to be a ball at Venice; actors & actresses dancing a very formal Minuet; the women wear huge skirts. Closer (MLS) dancers. Same setting, 2 men & 1 woman all in very silly character make-up tip-toe across the room as if in fear; other actors watch from sides. Closer shot same. They jump and shake in fright. Back to wide shot: the trio tip-toe upstage where suddenly grotesque masked things start rising higher & highe. These are really held up by actors behind the long fabric hanging down from each mask. They chase the others around the room. Next the "Mirror of the Fayre". Trick in which a series of beautiful women seem to emerge from a giant mirror, each meeting a man on the outside. A beauty in a swaying white hoop skirt takes the hand of a gentleman in corresponding period costume. The next to appear looks like the Queen of the Fairies in a wild costume of shiny bra and sheer harem pants w/ a "skirt" of sparkling strips hanging over it & a cape w/ shiny beadwork. She is met by a guy in shiny tights and a skirted thing wrapped around him. Next a tall stylish modern woman steps out and joins a sort of lounge lizard type guy, they dance around a bit. Finally a Spanish woman in black lacy dress and mantilla steps out, greeted girls in short dresses holding cornucopias. Wide shot Spanish dance: woman (not same one that came out of the mirror) dances while men & women musicians (also in Spanish costumes) play. In the next dance, a man dressed as a jockey dances w/ a woman ballet dancer. Then he jumps through a hoop covered w/ paper. This is followed by a group of women in ruffled can-can skirts and headbands w/ what seem to be animal ears attached! Although the title calls this dance the "Pony Trot" the ears look more like donkeys'! They perform a dance which mostly consists of jogging around w/ their knees lifted high.
