| Description: | PESTALOZZI CHILDREN'S VILLAGE Scenes from a Sussex school for refugee children from all over the world. Tibetan children pray and have lessons taught by a Buddhist monk; Polish children perform folk dance. Battle, Sussex. Three young Tibetan children and a Tibetan woman, dressed in traditional clothing, walk across a typically English village green - -incongruous sight. They walk past an English country pub then through a gateway; pan to CU sign "The Pestalozzi Children's Village." Various shots of a Tibetan Buddhist monk preparing a shrine which features a picture of the Dalai Lama; a young girl bowing towards the shrine and placing a piece of fabric onto the shrine. Other Tibetan children enter the room; they are wearing Western style clothing . VO says the refugee children will be expected to follow the Dalai Lama's wishes that they train for professions in healing and education. MCU pan on row of the children with hands raised in prayer; CUs Tibetan children; CU monk - -all have serious expressions. CU candles in silver candle holders on shrine. The monk gives a Tibetan history lesson in the open air; writes on blackboard. He walks over to desks and looks over the children's work. He leads one of the little boys over to the blackboard and lifts him up to show him something. The monk smiles at the boy. The children leave their studies, walk through garden. LS Polish refugee children dressed in national costumes perform Polish folk dances in garden as Tibetan kids sit on the grass watching. Closer shots of dancers. (VO says there are 65 children of different nationalities at the school, founded 5 years before, and they are all encouraged to keep their own traditions alive.) Var shots of the young Polish dancers intercut w/ a few reaction shots of Tibetan children. Shot w/ Tibetans in FG watching pairs of Polish dancers in pinfoil shape, skipping round in circle. | |
