L/S of rows of separate pig sties which look like little chalets, each have their own yard and there are pigs playing out in them, two men are wheeling a trolley of food down the side. A group of people walk up to look at the pigs. M/S as they stop at one sty, M/S of a man pointing to the pigs and talking to the group, M/S as the group look at them. This is a pig research centre which will enable the breeding of better quality pigs. M/S as two men pour a sack of feed into a big bin, M/S of the top of the bin. M/S from above of six pigs in separate feeding stalls, a man unhooks the ropes which close the pen doors. C/U from above of a pig's head as it eats from the trough. M/S as the pigs back out of the stalls. C/U of a pig looking over the top of a wall, C/U of another pig in its pen, its name and pedigree are written on a sign in the background, M/S of the pig. M/S as a pig climbs down steps from the chalet to the yard, another one follows it and slips. M/S of piglets feeding from the mother, she walks off. L/S as the mother lays down and the piglets feed again. L/S as a man opens the roof on a pen, there are a group of piglets huddling together in a corner. He climbs in and tries unsuccessfully to catch one. He eventually picks one up and puts it in a bucket attached to a weighing scale, another boy is stood by it. C/U as he checks the weight and writes it down. M/S of the piglet in the bucket. L/S of Dick Widdoson wearing a white coat knelt down in front of a machine. Ian Miller and Pat Myers, also in white coats, bring in a pig with blue markings across its back, they guide it into a wooden pen. Ian takes a metal block attached to a lead from the machine and rubs it over the pig to measure the amount of back fat. C/U of the metal on the pigs back, it works by sending a high pitched note through the fat which bounces back from the flesh and measures the amount.
