| Description: | POT GIRLS Women making lobster pots. Devon LS 2 women loading lobster pots (large baskets in half-globe shape used as traps) into boat. MS the women working on long narrow sticks or reeds; one seems to be stripping the bark off while the other whittles the ends into sharp points; a few finished "lobster pots" are leaning against house in BG. MCU woman using curved knife to sharpen the stick. MS one of the women inserts sticks into holes bored around the edge of a disc; the other still sharpening sticks. Fade to show passage of time; woman is now weaving long narrow sticks or reeds in and out around the wider sticks sticking out of the disc. MCU more weaving. MS woman bending the sticks so that they curve outward & down. MCU same. MS woman adding more sticks. She is pounding on it to force it in. CU woman weaving bunches of narrow sticks or vines around the curved sticks of the basket. MLS woman working on basket - much more is now completed. MS woman grabs bunches of the narrow sticks and bends them down into the center. More weaving around the edge. MS woman finishing basket, using a small club as a tool; a closely woven spiral forms the flat side. She then turns it over and drops it on the ground. LS Woman carries the finished lobster pot and sets it down with a bunch of others. She turns toward camera, smiling. | |
