Description:QUEEN VICTORIA'S COACH Queen Victoria's railway carriage from 1869 at the British Transport Commission

M/S in a modern (stationary) railway carriage; a woman sits with a small girl at a table in the restaurant car and beckons the waiter; he comes to take their order; in the background a man at the buffet counter is handed a cup of tea. M/S of a woman at the buffet counter drinking a glass of orange juice and wearing a rather unattractive patterned dress; she looks up at the decor as commentator talks of the modern railway compartment being a triumph of design. M/S of Queen Victoria's carriage from 1869, built by the London and North Western Railway and now "part of the British Transport Commission museum of historic showpieces soon to be open to the public". The carriage is displayed in a large building in Clapham, London. A man walks up a staircase to the door and goes in; the handles are very ornate. M/S of the wheels; C/Us of a carved golden lion on the side of the carriage and a painted Royal Coat of Arms. M/S inside the sumptuous day carriage! Lots of blue silk drapes; cream silk quilting on the ceiling and ornate lamps. The man walks around looking at things; he pulls on a small tassel at the window and takes the shade off a gas table lamp to light it. He looks at a document that we see in C/U showing the plan and layout of carriages of 'Her Majesty's Train' from 1900. C/U of a carved, golden Royal Coat of Arms over a blue velvet settee; the man picks up and presses a buzzer attached to a cord reading 'Dressers'. M/S of lamps on the quilted ceiling as the man closes a multitiered lace muffler over it (very Victorian!); C/U of the man adjusting a carved wooden air vent in the ceiling. M/S of the night carriage; green drapes with red quilted walls; two single beds with brass bedsteads and a basket hung on the end of each. The man enters from the day carriage, pulls a cord which switches on the ceiling lamps and closes a pleated lace muffler over the largest lamp.
