| Description: | 04:32:23:- CU of Daryl Peterson, geologist at the University of Nebraska standing near the quicksand pit and talking to the cameraman (but looking off-screen, not into the camera). He talks about the phenomena of quick gravel (why it occurs, explaining it scientifically). Pan right to MS of Mike Lukas (TV host and comedian) and Tim, a hydrogeologist also at the University of Nebraska talking about why quicksand occurs, what it scientificially is and how dangerous will it be when Mike goes into it. 04:37:53:- MS of Tim walking through a thicket of grass growing by the side of the quicksand pit; zoom in to CU as he shakes the loose ground with his feet. As he steps from the area zoom in to CU of a bubble cauldron in the watery pit. Wide MS of Mike, Daryl and Tim standing by the pit and talking more about the dangers of quicksand, that even though it appears very watery it is indeed a true quicksand pit. Pan R to wide shot of the pit, zoom in to CU of a bubble cauldron. 04:42:27:- MS of Mike (wearing a bright orange wetsuit) stepping into the pit, remarking on how cold the water and mud is. He steps gingerly about the pit, sinking here and there, preferring the pit's edge. Eventually he sinks waist-high and flounders about, giving his impressions on it all, joking and quipping as much as possible. Screaming for help, debunking the existence of quicksand, and so on. Mike walks into the center with a ten foot pole, sticking it into the sand. He pushes it nine feet into the ground, forcing water to trickle like a stream from the pole. A natural water fountain that Mike is compelled to play with. 04:52:51:- CU of the water as Mike places his baseball hat in, suggesting he's sunk and irretrievable. As if on cue as soon as he's out of frame a large bubble cauldron appears, rocking the hat away. And as if on further cue a dragonfly lands on the hat-raft, sailing the free ride. 04:53:38:- MS of Scott the cameraman (sans camera of course) taking off his shirt and traipsing into the water to frolic with Mike for a spell. They swim and play in the "gritty massage". 04:57:29:- Great MS's of Mike stuck waist-high in what resembles typical understanding of quicksand. Some great, funny bits of Mike screaming for help, his legs buried in the thick mud. Great stuff, looks like fun. Scary, too. 05:01:10:- CU's of bubble cauldrons in the watery part of the pit. Hypnotic activity, very soothing and unique. | |
