Description:RAID VICTIMS REACH AUSTRALIA (SURVIVORS OF SHIPS SUNK IN PACIFIC - AUSTRALIA) Survivors of ships sunk by German warships in the Pacific arrive at an Australian port.

"Raider Victims Reach Australia. Exclusive Pictures and Interviews. Commentary - Peter Bathurst. Cinesound Review."

Australia.

Various shots show survivors of ships the Triatic and the Rangatani that were sunk in the Pacific by German warships; we see them on a ship returning to a Northern Australian port. We see a group of bearded men (sailors?) pose with thumbs-up; several women and children; a man with a small boy and two dogs (one of whom we are told had six pups in the excitement); two young boys, one with his leg in plaster after a German shell exploded under their cabin. Australian men (waterside workers) give a cheer to welcome the survivors as the ship comes in. The passengers come down the gangplank. The Red Cross provides people with extra clothes as most survivors have lost everything; some women look at the clothes and hats provided. Several shots of survivors eating ice-cream cones and waving from a train as it pulls out. People seen on the train during the journey are heavily bandaged and have limbs in plaster. In Brisbane the survivors board buses and drive through the city while the locals line the streets and cheer. Brief shot of people waving from a train bound for Sydney. At Sydney railway station we see a blonde lady being welcomed home by family. Several shots of survivors being given sandwiches and chatting with Governor General Gowrie (Lord Gowrie) and his wife, Lady Gowrie. Captain Upton of the Rangatani makes a speech, thanking the Red Cross on behalf of all the survivors. Everyone cheers at the end.
