| Description: | RAIDERS' NIGHTMARE (aka VAN ROBBERIES) A new anti-raider device, 'Operation Skunk', is seen in action on two rather elderly highwaymen. Chislehurst, Kent. M/S of an elderly man fastening a metal grill over a red bag of valuables (?) behind mesh fence in back of van. He shuts the van doors, gets in and drives off from outside a bank. Commentator says "One doesn't have to use a mobile fortress to be safe from attack; as you'll discover, an ordinary van is enough - plus a little ingenuity". The man drives along a country road. MLS Van driving up towards camera. MS Shot from interior of van as it travels down road another car is parked across the road man runs out in front of van, blocking the way with his car. CU Interior of van man presses emergency button. A man with a crowbar runs to the back of the car as our driver hits a button in the van which starts up a continuous beeping noise. As the crowbar man is joined by another thug (both 'highwaymen' look rather elderly to me) they force open the rear van doors, and are enveloped in clouds of smoke coming from inside. As the two men are overwhelmed by the smoke, now a bright orange colour, commentator explains "That button automatically exploded an orange smoke bomb, set off an alarm hooter, and sprayed a yellow dye with a vile scent all over the van's contents and the raiders". This device is given the title 'Operation Skunk', due to it's smell. The crowbar robber runs off to a ditch and crouches there coughing and trying to brush the smell and dye from his clothes. | |
