| Description: | Interest and excitement mount in Chicago even before the arrival of Vice-President Nixon and the formal opening of the Republican National Convention. New York's Governor Rockefeller, following his 14-point platform agreement with Nixon, dominates the pre-convention spotlight. Although he's ruled himself out as a candidate for either the number 1 or 2 spots, his enthusiasts continue a stirring series of demonstrations. Exterior day rally for Rockefeller, signs. Rockefeller climbs off plane, waves to crowd of supporters. MS - People mill about in room. There's a long table set up with food and people are helping themselves with the goodies. There's a large poster of Richard and Pat Nixon on the wall. MS - Young people gather items (buttons, and strangely, feathers) with campaign slogans on them (presumably for Nixon). MS - A parade with floats. On one a flapper doing the Charleston. MS - Parade. Floats, including one shaped like a giant coin bearing Nixon's likeness. Scantily clad women hold Nixon signs (political cheesecake). CUS - One young woman waves a Nixon now! hat in the air, and she wears a huge button (as big as her head) that says "I'm For Nixon." | |
