Description:Highlights of the Republican Convention that nominated Barry Goldwater catches all of the excitement and tension of the down to the wire battle between the Senator from Arizona and Governor William Scranton of Pennsylvania. The Arizona leader of the Conservative wing clinches the nomination on the first ballot as South Carolina Casts its 16 ballots and puts Mr. Goldwater over the top. Other candidates are placed in nomination, including the first Asiatic and Senator Margaret Chase Smith. Governor William Scration, who fought a losing rearguard action, makes a plea for unity as Mr. Goldwater picks William Miller of New York as his vice-presidential running mate.
