| Description: | Roadhouse Nights (Filmed on the Kingston By-Pass.) Hot nights - and cool waters - Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey. Various shots of a cabaret evening. We first see some people diving into an open-air swimming pool, while elegant people watch. Girls parade around the pool side, modelling swimsuits and beach pyjamas - at midnight, according to intertitle. " - and fancy steps by Victor Fulmer, the youngest member of Casanova's Cast." Inside a marquee (?) we see a young boy in a Foreign Legion costume doing a tap dance on a tiny stage area. People sit watching at tables and crowd around to see. We then see The Scottish Houston Sisters (Bille or Billie and Renee Houston) doing their act; one of them plays a man. The girl tells the fortune of the butch one, then says "I hope that Pathe guy gets me when I'm looking cute!" and does some comical preening and posing for the camera. These two are quite funny; they forget to give their cue for the band to play their closing song, then sing together a snatch of 'It's Great To Be In Love'. Next act is Myrtle Winter, doing graceful handstands over a bench while wearing a sparkling skimpy costume. Then we see comedy team Collinson and Dean doing a routine about a know-all man talking to a schoolboy (the smaller of the pair in school cap and uniform) - this is quite funny. The performers in the acts we have already seen stand around watching beside the orchestra. | |
