| Description: | Sound quality is poor. ROYAL TOUR 1947 - BASUTO TRIBESMEN WITH THE KING Basutoland. King George VI pins a medal on the dress of Chieftainess Mantsebo Seeiso as Africans look on at a ceremony. The huge crowd sings 'God Save The King'. The King gets up to make a speech; Queen Elizabeth (Queen Mother) is seen on the dais, sitting beside him. Several shots of the crowd. Speeches are heard (not King's) but are quite hard to make out due to poor sound. Africans cheer the King and Queen Elizabeth (Queen Mother) as they drive along in an open car. Cut back to the King's speech. He says it gives him and the Queen great pleasure to be with them today. He thanks them for the welcome and regrets they don't have time to see more of their beautiful country. He says he is glad to be there on the day which commemorates the annexation of Basutoland by the British Crown. He thanks the people for coming to his assistance in the recent war when he was beset by many enemies. The crowds cheer the King at the end of the speech. | |
