One highlight of the first evening is a colorful pageant staged on both banks of the Seine, for a span of 5 miles, to regale the royal visitor. Crowd at foot of Arc de Triomphe. Queen Elizabeth II (and Prince Philip?) help lay a huge wreath at Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. CU eternal flame. MS Elizabeth. At a state dinner. Queen Elizabeth (wearing crown/tiara and evening gown) stands and addresses the others at the banquet. The queen and French President Rene Coty (?) raise their glasses in toast. Nighttime; the Queen walks red (presumably) carpet to opera house; she is decked out, with a glittering dress, a fur stole/wrap, tiara, etc. Then she boards a boat for a trip down the Seine. Coty, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh sit during the ride. A great many fireworks are set off. Various events and buildings along the river are lit up for viewing. | |
