SV Without whom of course there would be no luncheon today. Richard has had and extraordinary success. In this award he pulled in four votes out of every ten that was given for male stars and he actually gained an aggregate higher than the second third and fourth votes put together. His success is remarkable of the way the man in the part in the picture can all come together and produce in som fusion between the three of them a really extraordinary entertainment. Now we were hoping that Jane Wyman would have flown from Hollywood tody to receive the award but that is a very tall order and unfortunately it has not proved possible but I have had a cable from her over the week end which said Very grateful to have received Picturegoer distinguished award for Johnny Belinda am sorry can't fly to London to receive it myself would be delighted for Bebe Daniels or Ben Lyon to accept it for me. I take it as a very good compliment to me that Miss Neagle who is a practical and frequent winner of the award herself should come along here today to present it to me. Foremost to the readers and voters of Picturegoer and one of the many reasons why I'm so proud to have this is that it's something that has been given to me. from the film going public themselves it's something that they have made to happen. There are an awful lot of people who are responsible for my having won this award and I am humbly grately to all of them.' | |
