M/S of a British ensign flag as it is lowered, two boys untie it at the bottom of the flagpole. L/S as some of the boys bring out a telescope and stand, M/S as they fit the telescope to the stand. Various shots as they set the telescope up and take the lens cap off. C/U as one of the boys looks through it. L/S of the telescope on Margate promenade. C/U of a sign saying 'The Walpole Bay Ship Spotting Club, Cliftonville Margate'. Interior - M/S of a group of boys sat round making model ships, C/U of a boy threading some cotton through a bit of the ship. C/U of his face as he works. C/U of hands using a hacksaw sawing a piece of wood held in a vice, he saws the wood off and puts it on the top of a little ship as a funnel. M/S from behind another boy as he measures and marks with a ruler. M/S of the founder, Frederick Shelley, helping the boys as they build a big old fashioned sailing ship. M/S of a boy working on the ship, the camera pans across as he discusses something with Mr Shelley. M/S of the sailing ship. M/S of a model submarine chaser, the camera pans down to show lots of different tiny ships on the table. M/S of a man looking at a sextant, he hands it to one of the boys and gives him instructions on how to use it, he looks through it. M/S of two boys stood at the headland looking out to sea through binoculars. They are looking out for passing ships so they can go and raise the appropriate ensign. One boy signals to the other and they both look in the same direction. L/S as they get on their bicycles and ride off. M/S as they cycle up to the other boys who look out to sea as well. M/S as Mr Shelley looks through the telescope. M/S as one boy picks up the flag and unrolls it, M/S as they hoist a red, white and green flag. M/S of the flag flying. | |
