| Description: | SHORT SHOTS FROM SONS O' GUNS a new musical comedy at the Hippodrome. LS Bobby Howes, Robert Hale try out a vibrating belt weight reduction machine; they are assisted by 2 men in formal wear who seem to be demonstrating the machine. (Same sort of machine is also featured as the subject of some other stories during this period.) MCU one of the comedians leans on table, trying to take a drink while his arm is still shaking from the machine. Chorus girls in military uniforms dance. MLS, then WS in line across stage, BG is painted scene of village w/ old thatched roof houses They end with a salute. Next, Rosie Moran does acrobatic dance on same set. Aerial cartwheels, walkovers, handsprings w/ bouncy dance steps. MLSs then WS. Army skit. Line of privates stand at attention for drill sergeant Robert Hale. Bobby Howes keeps precipitously stepping forward out of the line, then jumping back into place. The irritated sergeant orders him to lead the drill. He has great trouble pulling out his bayonet, nearly drops his rifle, etc. As drill continues Howes keeps turning in the wrong direction. A line of village girls watch. | |
