L/S of some trees, the camera pans down to a lady, Phillipa Rowe, picking mulberry leaves off a bush and putting them in a large wicker basket. M/S of Phillipa picking the leaves, C/U of her hands picking the leaves, C/U of her face. She walks away from the scene with her basket, M/S as she walks past the camera. L/S of Ayot House, Phillipa is walking towards it, M/S as she walks up the steps into the house. The narrator tells us this is the Lullingstone Silk farm. Interior. L/S of Zoe, Lady Hart Dyke who runs the farm, in a room with trolleys full of straw, Phillipa walks in and Lady Hart Dyke takes a handful of leaves from her basket. Phillipa walks away and puts some more leaves on another table. M/S of Lady Hart Dyke putting down leaves for the silkworms to eat, there are lots of worms wriggling about. C/U of Lady Hart Dyke's face as she is feeding them, C/U of her hands putting down the leaves. Various shots of the silkworms feeding. Various C/Us of worms nibbling on a leaf. M/S of the worms and the cocoons in the straw. M/S of a lady called Kay Atkinson, she is stood by a spinning machine and is dipping a ladle into a wicker basket and taking out some cocoons. The narrator says the cocoons need to be heated up so they will not develop into moths. L/S of the machine, Phillipa is sat at the back spinning. Kay presses down a lid and the brush attached to it spins round. M/S of the brush going round, she lifts the lid and the brush comes up with the cocoons attached, she takes them off and puts them into a pool of water in the machine, the silk threads are tied to a spike on the end. M/S of Phillipa pulling some of the cocoons towards her and winding the ends round a spike at her side. C/U of her hands picking up the cocoons and attaching the ends to bobbins on the machine. C/U of her face as she is working. C/U of the machine spinning. C/U of the face of another lady and C/U of part of the machine spinning round. M/S of the lady examining the silk on a wooden bobbin. C/U of her face as she does this. The narrator says that the correct term for this process is sericulture. C/U of her hands examining the silk, C/Us of silk worms eating the leaves.
