| Description: | SKIS FOR EXPORT Skis are made for export to Switzerland at a factory Lowestoft, Suffolk. Various M/Ss of Lowestoft, Suffolk: a fishing boat coming into harbour; the harbour with various boats moored; high angle shot of lots of people on bikes followed by cars crossing a swing bridge near a fish restaurant; traffic going around the bend of the fish restaurant street. High angle L/S as the swing bridge starts to move round as commentator tells us the bridge lies between the inner and outer harbours; we see a fishing trawler passing through. Commentator talks of the history of this fishing town, then says "What is unexpected is a new industry among men used to building boats - making skis! And even more remarkable, they'll soon be exported to Switzerland!" as we see M/Ss and C/Us of a man making skis; matching lengths of wood, fixing red plastic covers to them and planing off one side of the ski on a machine on his workbench. M/Ss of another man who is pasting glue onto lengths of ski wood and plastic and sticking them together to make a 'sandwich' of a spring steel sole, a wood core and a plastic top. He lowers a pressing jig to bond the lengths together, then wheels the whole lot into a separate room where temperatures of 300 degrees and pressures of up to 7 tons are used to assist the process. Fade into M/S of the man taking a 'pressed' ski to another worker at a machine who trims the edges; C/U of the ski going through the machine. M/S as the 'pressing' man examines the finished and highly polished ski in the workshop. M/S looking down onto the snowy ground at a pair of skis worn by someone just out of shot; L/S of a man skiing down a snowy hill towards us and jumping off a small ski jump. | |
