| Description: | The time is the 1980's, the place is Seattle. Time for Slugfest, an annual event in which thinking, conscious human beings take the day off from life and responsibilties to race their homegrown slugs. Grainy, lo-fi images, probably taken from a VHS. 00:31:51:- CU's and MS's of adults and children coaching their slugs to the finish line by cheering and finger rolling. There are three heats to decide the winner... that is, if any of these people could ever be considered a winner. Alas, a young boy and his prized slug are awarded the Silver Cup. And it is just that, a small silver coffee mug. CUT TO BLACK. A COMMERCIAL FOR SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARVES APPEARS. THIS IS, OF COURSE, UNLICENSEABLE. DO NOT USE. ALSO NOTE: THERE ARE FREQUENT BLACK SPOTS IN BETWEEN SECTIONS, AS IT SEEMS WHOEVER WAS RECORDING THIS HAD A THING WITH THE FAST FORWARD BUTTON. 00:34:00:- MOre CU's and MS's of people, mostly kids and youngsters, racing their large slugs on a sectioned, color wheel patterned table. 1980's haircuts and clothes, especially the T-shirts. Odd ECU of several plastic gloved hands pushing and nudging slugs into the center of the table (the starting point). Seems to be the Teen Division. Check out the feathered hairdos, the ultra-tight T-shirts with the wearer's name emblazoned on the back. The participants try their darnedest to get their slug to win. 00:38:50:- A winner is declared, a young woman somewhat resembling a homely J. "jukebox" Jett. The camera crew interviews her: where she found her slug, what's her secret to success, and so on. The crew then try to get some comments from the slug. The slug declares peace in Israel, and hopes to someday be a matinee idol. 00:44:33:- Quick MS of the trophies, followed by an ECU of the plaque on one of them: 24th Annual McCleary Second Growth and Bear Festival 1982"; zoom out to MS of the trophy surrounded by the slug race winners. No, not the slugs but the, uh, slug trainers. Cut to MS of same, from different angle. Cut to MS of the head of a cartoon slug, part of a float. Cut to high angle CU of several slugs in a yellow bucket. Cut to CU of a slug in the hand of a middle-aged woman; cut to MS of her with a microphone and talking to the camera about her expectations for the event. Oops, she's a TV reporter. Cut to CU of a girl's T-shirt, says, "Rent A Slug" on it; tilt up to CU of, oops, a middle aged woman talking about her services at this year's event. Cut to CU of a button, says, "Championship Slug Races". Cut to MS's of the Slug Race float. MS of someone holding up a T-shirt momento of the event. CU of an older woman talking about the show. | |
