Description:SPECS FOR SHOWGIRL Vernons Girl Margaret Stredder visits the opticians and tries on some wild spectacles. (eyeglasses)

London.

M/S of a man with a rather fine beard standing beside a seated woman with blonde hair. The man is placing some kind of measuring device on the woman's head. C/U of the measuring tool being held over a box of fabulous 1950s spectacles - jewel encrusted with turning up tips - very chic. He selects a pair. C/U of the girl's legs. She wears pink stiletto shoes, yellow shorts and fishnet tights. Camera tilts up to show the girl trying on the selected pair of spectacles. Narrator informs that she is 23 year old Margaret Stredder, one of the delightful "Vernons Girls" - and one of the only showgirls or singers who wears her specs on stage and in front of the cameras. She looks into a small mirror and shows her approval. As she tries on various pairs of glasses her producer Jack Good of the "Oh Boy" television show looks on. Some great C/Us of Margaret wearing some truly sensational specs. Good C/U of Jack Good who is looking through some kind of optical device to see what she will look like on television. Margaret gets more fan mail than any of the other girls in the show - because she wears her glasses presumably. Some of the styles of spectacle are named. One is called "Space Age" and another "Oh Boy" - this features miniature guitars. "Cool-Kat" is a very groovy black pair with "flared brow line". Finally Margaret puts on a pair called "Tally Ho" which are suitable both for the show, and for when she goes out horse riding. Margaret seems to have changed into a yellow jumper and now wears a riding hat and holds a riding crop. She pretends to be riding a horse in her "Tally Ho" glasses whilst the optician and Jack Good watch appreciatively. C/U of Margaret having a fine time as the narrator asks: "Who says men don't make passes at girls with glasses?"
