| Description: | This is a story of sponges and the men who fish for them. Each year a whirl of activity approaches sponge fishing season in Greece. The 80 boat tortilla will be gone 7 months. Everything needed in the voyage must sail with them. The ceremony of departure is solemn, the blessing of the Bishop is the center of each families hopes through the months to come. Sponge diving is one of the worlds most perilous as well as ancient trades. Each year many are killed and many more are crippled while diving. But each year the ships go fourth and new modern equipment go with them but the bravery and dauntless sprit that will bring them back dates back to the golden age of Greece. Establishing shot - A Greek man is trimming a huge sponge. CUS - Sponge fishing men getting their sailing vessels ready for the sponge season. MCUS - Men carrying supplies aboard the ship. MOHS - Two sailors getting the diving gear ready. MLS - The sponge ships, sailors and families on the docks.
