(housing crisis) London Low angle shot of a block of flats - Buttermere Court (sp?) - some flats have balconies. VS new block of flats nearing completion, high rise brick apartment building. Pan down to two men on a flat roof top measuring or working on the roof. Sign about parking in "The Marlowes" and "Finchley Road." Pan across to an area of sun chairs. The flats are to be sold on a first come, first served basis.A queue of prospective buyers wait to become owners of the flats and have to wait for days. Man speaks to camera about the chronic shortage of housing. Group of women speak about why they have been "squatting" in order to buy one of the flats. The women speak about how it has been, waiting for four days. Company man speaks in front of new flats about housing problems. They have a waiting list of 400 people for 70 flats. Fears are expressed about queue barging. Top shot of the area where sun chairs and loungers are laid out. Shots of chairs (and even wheelchairs), blankets etc. used by the people while waiting in line. MS 2 women playing "Scrabble". CU "Scrabble" game board with letters on it. Pan to the new flats being built. Interviews with some of the people in the queue and also a representative of the builders. | |
