| Description: | STAND UP AND SING Two routines from the show "Stand Up and Sing" - an acrobatic troupe and a dance number. Hippodrome, London Acrobatic troupe The Seven Hindustanis form a series of human towers & pyramids on stage, w/ people in Western style formal wear grouped around back, watching & applauding. Next the 7 H's do backward handsprings across stage. MLS one of the acrobats doing aerial cartwheels in a circle. Back to wider shot of whole stage: more handsprings, etc. MLS all the acrobats moving at once, each doing his own tricks. A strange dance scene set on a ship's deck. MS row of women dancers wearing white long-sleeved tops, hoods or scarves, and, most notably, weird baggy trousers made of layers of ruffles or feathers. Tilt down WS: dancers on the ship set: one row of men in uniforms of merchant marine officers & 2 rows of the women in the ruffly feather pants. WS to MLS at stage level: some fun choreography: dancers in several rows with each row of dancers holding hands and passing over or under the other rows - while one row stands up and steps over the other row's linked hands, the others crouch down and duck under the hands of the ones standing. As this continues the steps turn into jumps until its like a wild mass version of leapfrog and London Bridge is Falling Down. MLS these dancers move off stage, leaving one single dancer in a different naval costume w/ short jacket who does a few bouncy dance steps, then pivots in a jerky circle and pops a salute. This may actually be a woman in drag? | |
