| Description: | Steel Strike Settled. Secretary of Labor Mitchell, steel spokesman R. Conrad Cooper and union head David McDonald announce settlement of the 8-month-old steel dispute, after a 22-hour negotiating session, with major credit going to Secretary Mitchell and to Vice-President Nixon. Ext. building day (office or gov bldg?). James P. Mitchell reads statement into microphones (nat sound): "... the differences between the parties were narrowed to a point were a recommendation for settlement was made by the Vice President and myself, which was accepted voluntarily by both parties. The contents of the settlement are being withheld pending ratification by the appropriate bodies of the parties." Two men on either side of Mitchell (VO refers to Cooper and McDonald) shake hands with each other, then each gives handshake to Mitchell, while flashbulbs go off. | |
