| Description: | Storms Rip Eastern U.S., Japan Hurricane Helene roars along the Carolinas and Virginia capes, her 140 M.P.H. winds and slashing rains taking a high tool in property damages. But forewarned residents take cover and no life is lost. Central Japan reels under typhoon Ida, one of the worst storms in the nation's history. Nearly 600 die, thousands are injured or missing, while property damage alone is truly catastrophic in scope. Rain and wind blow against tropical-looking trees. Somewhat stormy waves crashing. Trees blown by wind. Very large tree branch/ limb on road. Traffic light (not lit) blowing in heavy wind. Storm damage to buildings, structures. Shingles on roof being blown, lifted by winds (not torn from roof, though). Another roof with damage. Tree which has fallen against a house. Flooded street with truck in the water, car driving where there is no water. People amid rubble. Asian man wearing hat holds eyeglasses in his hand, wipes eyes with cloth. Man places some small smoldering object into ground in damaged area, bows with hands clasped in prayer position. Wrecked buildings. Asian men in uniform amid this destruction carry large long object (perhaps a body or person covered in cloth). | |
