| Description: | Part of the film of the 1913 Derby; in which suffragette Emily Davison runs onto the track and throws herself at the King's horse with fatal results. (Davison, a radical "suffragette" who had failed in an earlier dramatic suicide attempt, believed that her death might serve to demonstrate the desperate dedication to the cause- -which it did, though not in the way she hoped.) Title: "Tattenham Corner" Hi ang view as horses come round the bend, in FG a bunch of guys on top of autos to watch as horses come down the track; in BG Crowds in stands. Title: "Suffragette Killed in Attempt to Pull Down the King's Horse." Again, view of track as horses come round a bend; Davison runs out in front of horse; is not surprisingly knocked down. People begin to run onto the track. Another camera view from front row of stands, w/ a few heads in FG watching horses coming down the straight. 01.44.48 Shot from inside track as crowd spills onto the field; crawling under rope; big grandstand in BG. LS panning on crowd in stands, filling entire screen. (Neg of complete story on Derby inc. Davison is on WPA 5186.). | |
