| Description: | ON PREVIEW TAPE 991937 B Excerpted from CHARLES DICKENS' first novel THE PICKWICK PAPERS (which he wrote when he was 23), comes this amusing tale of an outsider crashing a country Christmas. Opens with a CU of a hand pulling a book from a voluminous shelf; MS of a man (host) standing in the library of Dickens' home, talking to the camera. He introduces the text and film.......... MS's of top-hatted British men (in mid-1800's dress) boarding a horse-drawn coach... where they are joined by the curious Mr. Jingle; LS of the coach riding through the wood. MS of a man talking into his old mother's earpiece (a horn) as she rocks in a rocking chair by a fireplace. MS of the house porter being overloaded with luggage. MS's of a man unsucessfully wooing a woman's heart; he steals a kiss and they become entangled in the yarn she's been spinning. MS's of the folks dancing ballroom-style in their home at night. MS's of flamboyant and ever-quippy Alfred Jingle "making the acquaintance" of Master Pickwick's daughter Rachael, kissing her hand........... MS of a man in a sleeping cap and gown and candle bursting into Master Pickwick's bedroom as he snoozes; the intruder announces that Jingle and Rachael have left to elope. MS of the fretting household (all in sleeping caps and gowns and candles) bumbling about a hallway in the house, trying to rally the troops so they may stop the elopement. Tight LS of a horse and carriage in the wood at dawn; MS of Jingle and Rachael bouncing in the coach (she's rather flabergasted and he's feeling amorous). MS's of Jungle and Rachael cooing in their apartment of sin; the gang busts the party up; MS of Rachael fainting in Jingle's arms.......... Tight LS of X-Mas dinner, a large turkey being brought to the table. MS of Jingle hopping a carriage in another town, a man running from a store and calling for Jingle's apprehension. | |
