| Description: | TAMING EAGLES Naturalist Captain Knight shows us the birds of prey he has trained for falconry; a not-quite-tame American Eagle is seen in action. All you need is patience (a lot), confidence (more still) and - the eagles', said Capt. Knight, the famous Naturalist. Captain Knight introduces us to three birds of prey that he has trained for falconry, sitting on posts in a field: an American Red-tailed Hawk, a Golden Eagle from Scotland - a little girl strokes this tame bird - and an American Bald Eagle. Captain Knight says he was told the American Eagle would never be tamed and says to the bird "But you are getting tame, aren't you?" Right on cue, the bird starts to flutter and swipes at his hand with its great beak; Knight calls it a "bad dog". Knight gets the American Eagle to fly onto a perch in the field, then back to his gloved hand for a chicken head. He says she is inclined to snap, as she tries to bite his ungloved hand. He lets her fly free and we see her in slow-motion as she lands on the branch of a tree. She comes back when tempted with a morsel. Slow-motion shots show her catching food in mid-air and landing on Knight's hand. | |
