Fort Dunlop, Birmingham.

M/S of the undercarriage of an aircraft, it opens up and the wheels come down. M/S of the wheel, the fields are visible far below it. L/S of a plane coming in to land. C/U of a wheel touching down on a runway and bouncing along. L/S of a large jet with 'BKS Air Transport Ltd. London' written on the side, it taxis along the runway and comes to a stop. M/S of the aeroplane and its tyres, the camera pans across to the back wheels. C/U of a man putting blocks under the back wheels. M/S interior of the Dunlop factory and a man in a white coat stood in front of a machine which consists of a large wheel revolving against an aeroplane tyre. M/S of another man in white stood in front of a large wooden box with two dials in, he adjusts one of the dials and looks at the wheel. C/U of the tyre starting to spin round against the wheel. M/S of the wheel and tyre spinning round. M/S of a man holding a pen and watching them. C/U of the tyre spinning against the wheel. The narrator says this is the Cambered drum test designed to simulate a crosswind landing. M/S of the man writing something down on a pad, he is resting it on a metal box, he then walks away with the box. M/S of the man going under the metal cage which holds the drum test and climbing up next to the tyre. He balances the metal box on the side of the cage and takes the lead running from it which has a needle like device on the end. He puts his hand on the wheel to stop it spinning. C/U of him sticking the needle in the tyre. C/U of his metal box which has a dial on it, he has a pad of paper on top of this and writes down the results. L/S of a young man in white walking over to a machine which holds a tyre upright, there is a press above it, he is carrying some sort of gauge with a dial on, he turns something on the machine and there is a C/U of a pressure gauge shooting up to over 60. The narrator says this machine is an impact test. M/S of the man removing the gauge and taking it round to the left of the machine where he puts it down. He then flicks a switch and a press comes down slowly from the top of the machine onto the tyre. C/U of a corner of the press as it comes down. His hand moves in and presses a little cross shaped gadget with a ring on the end against a piece of white paper. C/U of the tyre press slowly moving upwards again. M/S of another man coming into the scene with a cone shaped object, he fits this to the press as it goes up. C/U of man fitting cone, which comes down to a spike at the end; M/S of the young man climbing up the machine to help him. The older man climbs down as the press continues to rise and the younger man climbs part of the way up a ladder which is next to the machine. The camera follows the press as it rises to the top. The narrator says the test is to simulate a hammer effect which can be responsible for tyre bursts not immediately visible. M/S of the young man going over to the starting button on the cage surrounding the machine. He presses the button, M/S shot from below of the press falling rapidly. M/S shot from the front of the spike hitting the tyre and bouncing up again. M/S of the young man coming through the door of the railings surrounding the machine, he walks over to the tyre, checks it and writes something down on a pad. M/S of another man standing at a large inertia flywheel designed to carry out tyre and brake tests. It is capable of simulating speeds of up to 200 miles an hour. The man is adjusting the machine with a spanner, it is a large round drum with a smaller drum fitted to it, on the end there is a large spoke. C/U of the man's hands checking the machine. C/U of his face, he looks off camera and speaks to someone there. M/S of a tyre in a harness, two men are manoeuvring the tyre and fitting it over the small drum, one of them pulls a chain to release the hoist and the other attaches it to another part of the machine. M/S of a man in white at a large desk of control panels, he adjusts a dial. M/S of a man shutting the red grills around the machine. M/S of the man at the control desk again. M/S of a large drum revolving with the tyre in the foreground. C/U of the man's face as he looks at the dials. C/U of the dial he is looking at. C/U of the drum revolving and the tyre with 'Dunlop' written on the side. The machine pushes the tyre onto the drum. M/S of the tyre and drum spinning together. C/U of the man's hand pulling what looks like a joystick on the control desk, this is the brake to stop the machine, there are other switches and levers visible too. C/U of the tyre spinning fast against the drum, they start to slow down and then stop. M/S of the tyre attached to the machine in front of the drum smoking from the friction.
