| Description: | THE ART OF ENGRAVING Copper plate is engraved by an artist - engravings are presented. Woman sits in a chair up on a small platform. The artist crosses & sits w/ sketch pad. MS artist sketching. MS woman posing. MS artist now sitting at desk. He uses the sketch as a reference as he draws another picture of the woman on a thin square sheet of metal(?) using a tool that looks like a small knitting needle. CU the portrait. MS artist rubbing ink on the square. CU same. MCU artist places the square on the flat surface of a press. He puts two other things over it. Then he covers the whole surface w/ protective cover; the flat surface starts to slide under cylinder. MLS woman operating the machine: she turns a large wheel which then turns the smaller gears that make the press work. MCU removing the work of art from the press: the sheet of paper or thicker material which was touching the inked square now has the portrait on it. MS woman pinning copies of the portrait to a table to dry. Series of CU s of this and other portraits made by this method. | |
